General Guidelines on cable gauge (AWG) by Distance

• For runs up to 15 feet, 18 AWG is typically sufficient for most RGB lighting setups
• For runs up to 30 feet consider 16 AWG
• For runs over 30 feet 14 AWG may be necessary, depending upon the total wattage of the lights

Current Rating by AWG

• 18 AWG: Can handle up to 5 amps, suitable for shorter runs and lower power setups
• 16 AWG: Can handle up to 10 amps, for moderate runs
• 14 AWG: Can handle up to 15 amps, for longer higher power installations
